Creating an Amazon Affiliate Link

This uses the Amazon Link plugin.

Terminology:

shortcode – This is a special piece of programming code that is translated at the time the user looks at a post or page.

Instructions

  1. Place your cursor at the end of your content in the post or page editor.
  2. Scroll down the editor page to the Add Amazon Link panel. Click on the arrow to open the panel if closed.
  3. In the “Link Text” box, replace “Enter Link Text Here” with the text that you wish to display in your post.
  4. Enter a value in the Author or Title search fields to search for the Amazon product.
  5. Click on the “Search” button.
  6. Scroll through the search results until you see the desired product.
  7. Click on the “Insert” button. This places the Amazon Link shortcode in your post.
  8. Go back up to your post and find the shortcode added at the bottom of the post. It will look something like this:

    {amazon text=The Way of the Shaman&asin= 0062503731}

    Note that the “{“ and “}” will actually be  “[“ and “]” in the shortcode that you see in your content. The special characters were changed so you would see the actual shortcode in this document instead of the translation.

  9. If you forgot to change the Link Text, the shortcode will look like this:

    {amazon text=Enter Link Text Here&asin= 0062503731}

  10. Replace “Enter Link Text Here” with the text that you would like displayed in your post.
  11. If you want to format the text displayed, highlight the text between the “text=” and “&” in the shortcode and apply bold, italic, etc.
  12. Cut and paste the shortcode where you wish it to be displayed in your post.
  13. You can cut and past the shortcode anywhere you want in your post, or duplicate it in other posts.
